How to find out if a server is physical or virtual?

Just had a question come up in the Server Team about how to find out if a server is a virtual machines (Vmware) or a physical server .e.g Compaq Proliant?

To check a remote server for just that information use the following:-

systeminfo /s | findstr /i servername system

The output will be similar to this:-

System Manufacturer:       VMware, Inc.
System Model:              VMware Virtual Platform

Thanks to Matthew ‘Evil Knievel‘ James for this hint!

To find out all system information on a remote server:-

systeminfo /s servername

Thanks to James ‘The Hobbit’ Holme for this hint!

These commands use the built in Windows System Information tool.
