As I am migrating  IIS websites from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 (ASP.net 1.1), I had this error message when logging into the login.asp form which contacts a SQL Server 2008 database:-

An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator.

If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error.

What you need to do is the following to show the whole error message:-

1. Turn off Internet Explorer ‘Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages’

In Internet Explorer on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

On the Advanced tab, under the Browsing section, click to clear the Show friendly HTTP error messages check box, and then click OK.

Close the browser

2. Turn on ‘Script Error to Browser flag’:-

Start an elevated command prompt. Right-click the command shell item in the Start-Accessories menu and select “Run as Administrator”.

Run the following command:

%windir%system32inetsrvappcmd set config -section:asp -scriptErrorSentToBrowser:true

Once you have fixed the problem I highly recommend turning the error messages off

Run the following command:

%windir%system32inetsrvappcmd set config -section:asp -scriptErrorSentToBrowser:false

Cheers Adi
